7QC Tools

The 7QC (Seven Quality Control) tools are a set of techniques and methodologies used in quality management to identify, analyse, and solve quality-related issues in processes. These tools were originally developed by Japanese quality guru Kaoru Ishikawa and are widely used in various industries to improve product quality and process efficiency. The 7QC tools are:

  3. Cause-and-Effect Diagram (Ishikawa or Fishbone Diagram): This tool helps identify and analyse potential causes of a problem. It visually represents the various factors that may contribute to an issue, categorising them into different categories such as people, processes, equipment, environment, and materials. By systematically exploring potential causes, teams can identify root causes and develop effective solutions.
  4. Histogram: A graphical representation of the distribution of a set of data. Histograms display data as bars of varying heights, representing the frequency or distribution of values within different ranges. They help teams understand the variation in data and identify any patterns or outliers that may indicate quality issues.
  5. Scatter Diagram: A visual tool used to identify relationships between two variables. Scatter diagrams plot data points on a graph, with one variable on the x-axis and the other on the y-axis. By analysing the pattern of the data points, teams can determine if there is a correlation between the variables and identify any potential cause-and-effect relationships.
  6. Control Charts: These charts are used to monitor process performance over time and identify any trends or deviations from the expected values. Control charts typically display process data, such as measurements or counts, plotted over time, with upper and lower control limits indicating the acceptable range of variation. By monitoring process performance using control charts, teams can detect and address quality issues before they result in defects or failures.
  7. Flowchart: A visual representation of a process, depicting the sequence of steps or activities involved and the flow of materials, information, or resources. Flowcharts help teams understand and analyze processes, identify potential areas for improvement, and standardize procedures to ensure consistent quality.
